A 25-year-old safety evaluation that helped regulators approve glyphosate (Roundup) has been retracted after evidence emerged that Monsanto ghostwrote the research without disclosure.
MAHA ANGLE: This retraction exposes deep regulatory capture at EPA. The study, published in Regulatory Toxicology and Pharmacology in 2000, was titled 'Safety Evaluation and Risk Assessment of the Herbicide Roundup' and has been cited by EPA to support its position that glyphosate is not carcinogenic.
Beyond Pesticides is calling for Congressional oversight hearings. 'At issue is the reliance of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency on industry data and agency collusion with chemical manufacturers on its decisions.'
EPA is expected to release its proposed interim decision on glyphosate sometime in 2026. Bayer, which acquired Monsanto, has paid over $10 billion in settlements to plaintiffs alleging glyphosate caused their cancer.
What you can do: Demand your representatives investigate EPA's reliance on industry-funded research. Support organic farming practices.
