MAHA Movement Gains Momentum in State Legislatures: Food Dyes and UPF Lead 2026 Agenda

The Make America Healthy Again movement has made major inroads at the state level, with bipartisan support emerging for bills targeting food dyes and ultraprocessed foods.

MAHA ANGLE: Secretary Kennedy's federal agenda is creating a ripple effect in statehouses nationwide. West Virginia Republican Adam Burkhammer's personal experience with foster children's behavioral improvements after removing synthetic dyes from their diet led him to sponsor legislation banning seven dyes in his state.

'It's not very often you see states like California and West Virginia at the forefront of an issue together,' noted Andy Baker-White of the Association of State and Territorial Health Officials.

The $50 billion Rural Health Transformation Program offers incentives to states implementing MAHA policies, and Kennedy has personally appeared with state officials including Texas Governor Greg Abbott to sign food-related legislation.

What you can do: Contact your state legislators and ask them to support food dye bans and UPF labeling requirements. Visit the MAHA Scorekeeper to see where your representatives stand.
